Milestone Payment Overdue: What to Email Mid-Project

When a milestone invoice sits unpaid, the risk is doing the next chunk for free. Confirm what is done, pause the next milestone in writing, and give one clear pay-by date.

Subject: Milestone [N] invoice [Invoice #] — pay-by [Pay-by Date]
Hi [Client Name],

Milestone [N] for [Project] is complete and invoice [Invoice #] ([Amount]) was due [Due Date].

Delivered in this milestone:
• [Deliverable 1]
• [Deliverable 2]
• [Deliverable 3]

Please pay by [Pay-by Date] using [Payment Link]. Until that clears, I am pausing Milestone [N+1] / [next work] as of [Pause Date].

If AP needs a PO, W-9, or a different invoice format, reply today and I will send it the same day.

Subject: Re: Milestone [N] — restart after payment
Hi [Client Name],

I can keep momentum once invoice [Invoice #] ([Amount]) is paid. I am not able to start Milestone [N+1] on credit.

Options:
1) Pay today at [Payment Link] and I restart [Restart Date], or
2) Confirm a pay date no later than [Alt Date] and I hold the calendar until then.

Which works on your side?
